LG DVD Player - no picture after flawless 2 year performance

by CodeCola / March 16, 2009 4:45 AM PDT

I have an LG DVD Player (LDA-731) hooked to a SONY Grand WEGA Triple LCD Projection TV through an HDMI cable. Its been working flawlessly for 2 years - plays every thing.

I played an audio CD (like I have done many times before) and suddenly there is no picture - only a strong blue flicker on the TV. The audio through a different receiver - is perfect.

I did not change any setting. The S-Video output is producing no picture at all. I have checked and tightened the cable connections, etc. No effect.

What could be wrong?

It sounds like you tried diffrent outputs on the DVD player and nothing right?

Sounds like it died, electrons that have moving parts have short life spands, next time get a better brand & it should last longer. 4-5 years is the life spand of a 'good' DVD player now days.

The res. (resolution) button may have been hit by accident. Try pressing it until it is set back to 480 (DVD player must be on stop mode - power on but not playing)

when you turn on the LG without any type of disc in the tray -- do you get the LG logo?
I'm trying to understand your post. What kind of picture did you get when playing an audio CD? Did you play an audio CD, then a DVD and didn't get a picture? Since you're using SVHS I guess you're using analog connections for audio. Is there any other type of video ports (component or composite) to try for video?

This is an old post from '09

Hopefully the OP bought a different player. But, back to the original post, it is rather confusing. He said the player is connectec via HDMI but then says "I played an audio CD (like I have done many times before) and suddenly there is no picture." Video from an audio CD does not make sense, unless he simply means no text data appears from the CD. And then he says "The S-Video output is producing no picture". This is confusing.
