LG ARC function incompatibility within LG family

by abuems / January 6, 2016 3:23 PM PST

I have an LG 55ec9300 OLED TV "connected" to an LG LAS551H soundbar. I have contacted LG about my issue THREE TIMES, with no resolution. Each time, they say they will get back to me, and nothing ever happens. So much for "customer service"!

My Satellite box is connected via HDMI to the soundbar's HDMI input, then the soundbar's HDMI output to the TV's HDMI/ARC port. Right off the bat, the soundbar would display HDMI IN, and I changed the TV sound to External HDMI/ARC and all was fine. The soundbar recognized the video and audio signal. If/when I changed the TV input to other HDMI ports (like BluRay), the soundbar would automatically switch to TV ARC mode and send audio to the soundbar, as expected. Even using the streaming apps on the TV would activate the TV ARC mode and work fine. When I'd switch back to my satellite TV feed, the soundbar would again recognize this, and would change to HDMI In mode smoothly. All that was great.

However, after about 2 weeks of working as expected, I started to have issues: The TV loses the video signal when the soundbar mode is set to HDMI In. If I change the soundbar mode back to HDMI In, the TV will automatically reset the sound out to TV Speaker, and I get an echo since both the TV and soundbar will now emit the audio. If I switch the TV sound back to External HDMI/ARC, the soundbar will switch itself to TV ARC mode, and again, I lose the video signal. This is ridiculous. There is no reason it should suddenly stop working for no reason whatesoever!!

I have replaced HMDI cables. I have gone through all the troubleshooting. I have reset everything. Nothing fixes the issue.

I have heard/read/seen other issues with compatibility problems between makers, but to have this issue happen with the same maker, and with both units being 2015 models, is a complete joke.

The whole reason I wanted to use the ARC function was because the optical cable and wireless connections both cause incredible lag that cannot be eliminated regardless of the adjustable settings both the TV and soundbar provide. It's like watching a bad foreign film that's been re-recorded with English dialogue. LG should stand for Lousy Garbage! Angry
