Below you'll find the settings I found best for viewing the LG 55EG9100 in a dim room via the HDMI input. Your settings may vary depending on source, room conditions, and personal preference. Check out the Picture settings and calibration FAQ for more information.

Calibration notes: Before calibration my 55EG9100 review sample's Expert setting showed the most accurate picture, being a bit dimmer than Cinema and therefore more suitable for my dark testing room. It was quite accurate overall, if a bit bright in terms of low-level gamma.

Thanks to very good 20-point controls for grayscale and gamma, I was able to smooth out the bumps and improve accuracy significantly in that area. Happily the EG9100 lacked the pronounced mid-tone gamma dip I've seen on earlier LG OLEDs, including its predecessor the 55EC9300.

One issue cropped up at the peak (100%) window, however, where the controls didn't allow me to dial back the somewhat reddish cast. I tried backing down the contrast control to compensate, but it didn't eliminate the issue.

The Color Management System seemed to work well also, but when I adjusted out the saturation errors with bright patterns, dimmer patterns became significantly worse--and as usual adjusting luminance and tint also affected saturation. As a result I ended up leaving the CMS alone entirely. That's not a terrible thing since even before any adjustments all colors have a Delta Error less than 3 (my standard target anyway).

bright room

Hi... did you ever figure this out? Also trying to figure out bright room settings. Adjusting the led light alone doesn't seem to do the trick.

Yes

Yeah me too, my room is like middle bright and I'm trying to figure it out

Calibration question

You pointed out that this calibration was for a dim/ dark room. I have this tv in a moderately bright room. What changes to these settings would you recommend for me? Turning up the oled light and brightness a bit? Contrast? Thanks in advance and thanks for your great review and settings.

Black issue when brightness >50 - crushed black result

Hi, thanks for the article but I have black issue when I put brightness above 50 , some clouding appears and black are not perfectly black anymore.
As a result, dark greys are crushed into black and we loose details.

It seems I am not the only one and would like to know if you face the same issue and if this can be corrected. This is not super visible in daylight but in a dark room yes. Sadly, it destroys the advantage of OLED: perfect black.

Same problem

I have the same issue. Did you get anywhere with it?

Trumotion

Thanks for these, I returned my LG UH8500 because poor blacks and I got this OLED and looks great! Question: why in the review you say de-judder 1 and here is 2? And did you use de-blur in the review?
