Question

LG 37L5000 tv rgb port not recognising laptop vga cable?

Nov 25, 2013 5:57AM PST

I am trying to connect my Toshiba Satellite L350-277 laptop with my LG tv via vga cable. When the cable is plugged in the RGB port does not show as being in use on the TV's Input list and therefore I cannot select it. Have tried all sorts of things and the cable is definitely working fine and the problem is not a resolution one as I have hooked up to 2 other smaller TV's with no problem...just plugged the cable into the laptop's VGA and TV's RGB and all worked no problem. Please help!!!

Answer
True. The old video detect pin issue.

I'm going to shortchange you here. It's an old issue with the video presence pin. Samsung has decided to not implement that anymore as not all cables wire that pin. You can see what's up in this video. I will not repeat that this applies to other makes.

What a crazy industry.

Somewhat helpful!

Thank you so much, Bob, for shedding light on why I'm having this issue. Unfortunately, I tried what was suggested in the You Tube link and it didn't work. I saw from the video's comments that it seemed to work for some people and not for others. Feel free to make any other suggestions as they would be very gratefully received!!

It has always worked for me.

But your reply tells me something else may be going on. I only have what you post so I can't guess if the video mode you are sending out the VGA is supported.
