Resolved Question

LG 32LD490 analog audio question - Please help!

Aug 12, 2014 7:41PM PDT

Hello

I've had my LG 32LD490 TV for a while now with no issues.

As I have an old stereo amp (no, I do not want 5.1 or to buy a new amp - my turntable and CD player etc are using the same amp) and the TV doesn't have a phono out (which is completely ridiculous) I have been using the HP (3.5mm) out to phono stage on amp for TV / DVD sound etc.

I'm using a Talk Talk box with no phono outs so this is not an option.

Also I have all mys wiring under the floorboards, pinned over doors etc so really do not want to relay wiring etc unless absolutely necessary.

The issue is, my headphone jack last night stopped working on the TV. I have tested the cable / amp etc by plugging in ipod to the mini jack and no issue with signal, it seems that the actual TV minijack port has stopped working.

I find this unusual as I have literally only plugged in / out a handful of times when setting system up. However, it has ceased to work.

What are my options without relaying wires etc?

Can I use the digital audio out with a toslink - phono stage convertor (or balanced mini jack) from the TV and get the analog sound from this? I have read conflicting views on whether this works.

I'm happy to get a phono to mini jack converter so I don't need to relay phono cables etc.

So chain would be:

TV digital audio out - (toslink/component - phono converter) - phono to mini jack converter- amp phono- speaker etc

Please any advice appreciated.

Also has anyone had any issues with HP out issues on TV's. Am I missing something? Setting etc.

I have flushed out jack connection with comp. air etc, and no signal.

Thanks

I don't see why not.

There are some thousands of those optical to analog things sold now so are you asking if they work? If so, I have to write yes. Just be sure you can swap for another make/model if the one you get is wonky.

I read your post twice and can't guess what "HP out" is.

H/P out

Thanks Bob.

HP out is headphone out (3.5mm / mini jack).

I wasn't asking whether the actual converter works, I was asking whether anyone has done this with this setup, as I have read conflicting reports on the success of this with LG TV's.

I have found I have an .spdif on the back of my digibox and looking into whether this is the best option.

Any other help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Setup? Yes.

But I'm guessing you are searching for someone with this exact make and model. Good luck and hope someone has that.

However when folk start asking for the best option, I worry. That is, while we can change parts, settings and after some thousand setups I worry that we would spend months trying model, connections and settings to determine which was best.

Hi Bob

Yes, if possible as this is the LG forums and I was hoping someone had had the same issue. The fact they don't have analog outs is crazy to me.

Anyway, I've looked at the digital converter and looks like the best option, rather than get H/P socket fixed.

Do you know if you need to use both the Toslink cable and the coaxial cable? Or does this work with only the Toslink cable? Just so I know whether to buy both.

Thanks for help

Bob, please don't worry!

COAX for most is the Antenna+Cable TV input to the TV

And Toslink on the TV is an audio output so I will write yes as I've yet to find any set that I can't use both.
