Question

Lexmark Z1420 printer has spurious voltages on the USB cable

Mar 17, 2015 9:37PM PDT

Hi Guys and Gals,
I have had a Lexmark Z1420 printer for years. Today I went to plug the usb cable into my computer and noticed an electrical tingle. touching it to my lips it was obvious. A digital meter revealed some 78v AC on the outer shield!!
Thoughts and advice please.
Mike.

Answer
Time to call it a faulty piece of gear.

That can blow out ports so remove it from service till the maker or an electrician can check it out.

Hot port etc.

This sounds like a grounding issue at the unit (computer)..do ALL USB ports have the same issue? Suggest checking for open ground, chassis and/or header, it might just be a frumpy solder joint,
