Lexmark Printer Communication Issue

I Have an older Lexmark 5600 printer. Had to uninstall / reinstall after I upgraded my PC to Windows 10 last year, but it worked OK since. Recently it abruptly stopped communicating with my PC properly. Tried the uninstall / reinstall, checked USB cable, cartridges are good. I even did a system restore on PC but no luck! Scanner works OK but print dialogue box has question marks where ink level usually displays. After long delay, error message says "Unable To Communicate..." I'm guessing it's a Windows 10 compatibility / support issue. Any suggestions?

Problem returned, fix not working!

My communication issue has returned and this time the suggested fixes are NOT working! Anyone have anything to suggest? P.S. Please list fixes step-by-step since the order in which you uninstall / reinstall, stop / start print spooler, etc. seems to matter. Thanks!
