Lenses for Nikon D50....and 35mm. needing interchangeability

Mar 3, 2006 6:08AM PST

I am about to purchase a Nikon D50. I do not presently have, but anticipate buying a 35mm SLR in the near future.

I have heard that there are some lenses made just for the digital camera and others that can be used on both. Can someone shed some light on this? How do I know when I am buying? I am also unfamiliar with the classes of Nikon (Nikkor) lenses. I have not really gotten any good information in this area (ED/AF/DX...).

Thanks in advance...jj

lenses for DSLRs. FYI, Nikon has stopped developing film cameras, although I think they are still selling some of their existing models.

Canon might be better if you want to pursue a dual digital/film strategy.
