Lenses for Nikon D50....and 35mm. needing interchangeability

I am about to purchase a Nikon D50. I do not presently have, but anticipate buying a 35mm SLR in the near future.

I have heard that there are some lenses made just for the digital camera and others that can be used on both. Can someone shed some light on this? How do I know when I am buying? I am also unfamiliar with the classes of Nikon (Nikkor) lenses. I have not really gotten any good information in this area (ED/AF/DX...).

Thanks in advance...jj

Thanks for the information. I am unable to get to this site, I get a page cannot be displayed message. Any other suggestions?

Google to find the Nikon web site. Follow the links to the

lenses for DSLRs. FYI, Nikon has stopped developing film cameras, although I think they are still selling some of their existing models.

Canon might be better if you want to pursue a dual digital/film strategy.
