Lens recommendation for Canon Digital Rebel XT

Jun 15, 2005 7:43AM PDT

Hi,

I'm considering Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT camera body, and want to know if it's a good fit for a telephoto lens.

I like to shoot with zoom lenses (about 256 mm) but I'm not sure if the camera body is too light/delicate for such a heavy lens?

any responses appreciated!

The body, perhaps, may be too small

for that kind of some telephoto lenses, such as Canon L-series like 70-200 mm F2.8 or above ( equivalent to 112 - 320 mm focal length regard the multiplier ). The body of Rebel XT is quite small. But, there're many smaller lenses, such as Canon 70-300mm, which is much lighter lense. If you want a stronger body to hold the bigger lense without any tripod, go for Canon 20D instead.

lens and support the lens when I shoot. I'm not concerned about the body, but the lens attachment point is small relative to the lens weight. Thus, I try to keep the lens supported. On a tripod, I attach the lens rather than the camera to the tripod.

Canon Digital Rebel XT

I just bought the Canon Digital Rebel XT. They only had the body, but they recommended an 18-200mm lens instead of the 18-55mm lens that it comes with. A customer at that store even said he didn't like it and wanted to buy a different lens. I think the camera is a little too small when holding it, but everything else is great so far. Just remember that you should buy another lens.
