Lens cap problem / Further to...

Feb 19, 2006 8:10PM PST

Its rather ironical that JVC's "widespread" lens cap problem of the CCD failing, seems to be actually caused by a Sony part (ICX281), and yet I haven't heard of Sony camcorders suffering from this to the same extent. strange!!!

The other thing that worries me is that the camcorders concerned were all manufactured in the 2002/3 era, so if "they" were manufactured then, I hope its known exactly when the CCD's were manufactured, as I can see a possibility of another potentially faulty one getting used as a replacement, that is unless JVC actually supplies the replacement parts to their agents themselves, as "very" variable prices for the ICX281's can be seen on far Eastern suppliers web sites, ranging from as low as $5.00 to over $100 per item.
Very tempting to the unscrupulous!!
