Question

Lenovo Yoga Hinge Problem

May 6, 2020 2:55AM PDT

I bought a Lenovo Yoga 710 about 2 years ago for over £750. During the first year the right hinge came off and broke the screen. I still had warranty but they said that it was my fault that it had broken so I had to spend £300 in repairing the screen. Recently the hinge has broken again smashing the screen. The other hinge then came off and now I can't move the laptop or the screen will come off. The touch screen also keeps spazing out and due to lockdown I can't get it repaired although I still need to use it. Should I wait for lockdown to end and then get it repaired or should I just buy a laptop? If so what laptop should it be (prefrably in the same price bracket)? Thanks.

Answer
I rarely read about hinge problems any more.

I'd start shopping for a replacement unless you find you can fix it for say 20 bucks. (not kidding here.)

I'm affraid it will be in the hundreds. What laptop should I get? Should I sell my current Yoga (with the problems)?

Your choice.

You can see on ebay how much broken laptops sell for (not much.)

As to your next laptop maybe a normal one that doesn't have that hinge design?

Microsoft Surface

Are used microsoft surface laptops any good and reliable? I was also thinking a used Thinkpad or a Razer Stealth.

I'm going with no.

Why would I write no about the Surface? Mainly due to most having a nearly impossible to replace battery. Since the battery used is only 300 cycle rated and a Surface is a type of laptop/tablet that would be used without the charger most of the time any 1+ year old Surface would be avoided unless you were OK with desktop use.

Thinkpads are usually work horses so I like that idea. Razers tend to be worn out as they are light and often gaming units that run hot and don't age well.
