Tip

Lenovo x1 carbon or W540

Jan 12, 2015 6:04PM PST

im hesitating between the lenovo x1 carbon and the lenovo w540. im a mechincal engineering student so the laptop will have to be able to run CAD programs, and if possible run some games.

i would rather buy the x1 since its lighter and i will be carrying it around allot, but im afraid that it might have some trouble running some of the programs as it's not as powerfull as the W540.

I don't see an outright question here. I see mention of some model series but no exact model from those series. Try asking about a specific game on a specific model from those series.

CAD is usually fine. That is, it may not be instantaneous but it should be fine.

Doesn't look good for games.

If you've been reading the reviews on what it takes to drive video at over 1080p you know this can't do it (for games.)

If you can, pull the video settings back to 1080p and it may get decent frame rates.
