However given the battery looks to be 300 cycles, I don't call that durable. Yes, that's the rating but let's say you used it on battery during the day and charged at night. In about a year your laptop battery could be wore out.

The definition of durable is "able to withstand wear, pressure, or damage; hard-wearing.
"porcelain enamel is strong and durable""
which does not seem to apply to common laptops. Those Panasonic and Dell Toughbooks are better but you could still wear out a battery if you used it daily.

700 for a 4GB laptop seems high. From the list at http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Computers-Accessories-Laptop/zgbs/pc/565108 I'll skip down to a 700 dollar laptop which is this Asus:
http://www.amazon.com/Zenbook-UX305FA-ASM1-13-3-Inch-Ultra-Slim-Aluminum/dp/B00SGS7ZH4/ref=CNET

That has 8GB RAM, 256SSD and 10 hour battery time. Seems a better deal. The smaller size isn't too small and that plus the lower weight might help it last a few years more.

Answer
Well the 540 is
Mar 18, 2015 12:39AM PDT

based on the Haswell technology but is an i5. The 450 uses the brand new Intel Broadwell technology but is an i3 so i would go for the 540 the 450 will probably have the better battery just because its the 5th generation and an Ultra Intel processor and the other is the 4th generation. For power I would select the 540 for battery life the 450. Im not sure how much battery life it will save.
