Question

Lenovo Thinkpad X200 will not boot

by ewufverugfv / May 18, 2014 3:47 AM PDT

Hi,

My laptop will not boot. When I power it up it gives the first message that it normally generates:

ThinkPad

To interrupt ... press the blue ... button

It does react when I press the blue button or any other

If I remove HD I get the same result.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Alex

Failed or corrupt HDD. In some machines there are other issues like a torn SATA cable or board failure but when our tech sees what you described he'll pop in a blank HDD and use the restore media. If the owner lost or didn't make such we'll toss on any Linux to show the machine working.

HDD is likely OK.

Bob, I highly doubt that It's a HDD problem. If it was HDD I would get a message that it couldn 't find HDD. I had this problem before.

That's sad news.

If it's not the HDD the repairs usually cost so much the owner just replaces the machine. Now there could be some BIOS setting but I rarely see that today. That is, owners tend to stay out of the BIOS.

Let's be sure of something.

1. BIOS is all Defaults.
2. This is NOT in UEFI mode.
3. There are no USB cables, memory sticks or memory cards installed.
4. The machine is stock.
5. If this machine has a DOCK, no dock.

For me I'd be hoping for a bum HDD. Easy enough to pull out some other bootable media for tests but I'll take your word the HDD is fine. Sorry to read that was OK.
