Question

Lenovo T61 Vista SanDisk SSD Will Not Shut Down...

Aug 30, 2015 5:46PM PDT

Hello all, I have the above machine with 240g ssd, of which 169g of space used. Over the last few weeks when I have tried to shut down by using my normal windows method, the machine goes into the 'shut down' splash screen and no further. I have waited up to five minutes then finally using the on/off button to shut down.

I have not done a disk defrag as I understand that SSD's should not be done so. At any rate, does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts as to what the challenge might be?

TIA - bo1953

Answer
What happens if you boot to Safe Mode?

If it will shut down from Safe Mode, then you know it's likely something that's being started when you boot up. If so, you can run MSCONFIG->Startup tab and uncheck anything there but your antivirus. A little trial and error unchecking 2 or 3 at a time could help isolate the offender.

Good luck.
