Question

Lenovo Ideapad asking for a BitLocker Recovery Key

Mar 31, 2019 1:38PM PDT

I have a 3 year old Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It did an update and then locked me out. We own 2 of these laptops and both did this. Windows is asking for a BitLocker Recovery Key. I was able to find it 1 of the laptops, but I don't have it for the other one. I'm being held hostage by Microsoft Windows 10. Help Please!

BitLocker is a Microsoft software designed to protect your PC against offline attacks, unauthorized access typically if your PC gets stolen.

If this is company owned asset/device, you should turn to your company's IT support guys and they should be able to provide you with the recovery key

If this is your own personal device, and if you don't know your recovery key, most probably you use a slightly different BitLocker version for certain PCs and tablets known as Device encryption. Your key might be stored in Microsoft OneDrive with your Microsoft account here :
