Question

Lenovo Ideapad 110-15iSK DVD to Blue-Ray Player Upgrade

Jul 12, 2018 9:53PM PDT

I am curious as to if it's at all possible to upgrade the standard DVD player in my Lenovo Ideapad 110-15iSK to a Blu-Ray player? If so, how can I go about finding one that will work for me? I've tried google and the results show for the Thinkpads, but no luck so far on the Ideapads. That is, unless the Thinkpad Blu-Ray player is also compatible with Ideapad laptops and I'm just noobing it and showing how little I know by not knowing something so obvious. Lol, anyway, any helpful information is welcomed and appreciated, thank you.

My worry is about the costs. Not only do you need the drive but the Blu-Ray player software. This is why I didn't upgrade my DVDRW to BR. What I did do was catch a sale on an USB BDRW with player software for just 55USD. This has worked out far better as it's been about 5 years and I have changed laptops.

I see, is there a specific brand that you purchased? I'm probably not looking in the right places but so far any attempt at finding something for my Ideapad has resulted in only finding things for a Thinkpad.

I just so happen to have the box here.

Buffalo BRXL-PC6U2

It's likely to not be on sale any more but the key reasons were:
1. USB so I can use it on this and later PCs.
2. Included Blu-Ray video player and burner software.

https://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-MediaStation-Portable-Blu-Ray-BRXL-PT6U2VB/dp/B00UQSCY00 appears to be the newer model.

Be sure you KNOW that BD player software is not free. I've seen folk pick up just the drive then melt down over the cost of the BD player software.

I appreciate the information, yeah I was working under the assumption that the software would cost somewhere around $100 itself, is that correct?

That's the full retail cost.

Hi,

Free Blu Ray Player Software is Leawo Blu-ray Player. Download from https://www.leawo.com/blu-ray-player/

Next if the Thinkpad DVD drive is the same model as your DVD drive in your Ideapad then that Blu-ray should work OK.

The question is do you simply want to play Blu-ray disks or do you want to burn Blu-ray disks as well?

Blu-ray BD Combo Player Reader DVD Burner Drive plays Blu-rays, DVD's & CD's but only burns DVD's & CD's. Read the drive discription to make sure it does what you want it to.

I upgraded my Dell e6540 from a DVD Burner to a Blu-ray Burner. Same brand as the DVD drive. Strangely the drive is not recognised in the BIOS but functions properly & is recognised by both Win 7 & now Win 10.
