But before you send it in, backup what you can't lose.
Here I use the common USB DVDRW because my new laptops don't come with a drive.

I possess a Lenovo E431-6277, purchased March 2013. (I have no ready record of its release date in my part of the world).
Very recently, I have had a problem with the DVD drive, which Lenovo calls a DVD-RW/CD-RW Rambo Drive.
I was recording from a dvd, via some ripping software, and noticed that the entire process had slowed down considerably. The very quick 'whirring' sound at the beginning was distinctly absent.
On playback, the result of one recording was that in the latter half, the sound was ok, but that the picture seemed to move in fits and starts, or 'jerky movements' .
One other attempt only partially succeeded, while with another product, the unit failed to record the three times I attempted it. In playback of previous video & cd recordings, undertaken 3+ months ago, there has been no problem indicated. This is the first time such has happened.
I turned the laptop over, & opened a smaller section behind the main battery. I opened it because I suspected that the drive is powered by a battery. This section DID contain what looked like an enclosed round battery, but can not be sure. Is my conclusion re. drive battery correct? If so, can it be replaced? The machine is under warranty.
