Length of podcast

Feb 11, 2006 6:22PM PST

well it looks like the so called ''podcast of indeterminate length.'' Might not be quite so hard to determine, I thought id go on to itunes and look at the length of the last however many podcasts, and yea......their was a trend, check it out. http://www.adamfg.co.uk/podcastlength.jpg do you think we should perhaps warn them to change the length, before they become predictable!

Podcast of stochastic length
Feb 12, 2006 2:39AM PST

Yeah, we have been shooting for 25-30 minutes lately since that seems to be the length that works the best for the most people (regardless of encoding, save that for another thread. Veronica's on it. Thanks.)

But it's still *technically* indeterminate, right? Even though it only appears random, we never know exactly where it will end up. In fact I'd almost venture to say it could be fractal, with the graph describing a finite volume but an infinite perimeter.

OK I'm being silly, but I just love talking math and Molly won't let me do it on the podcast.

Thanks for the graph!!

that's part of the beauty of podcasting as a medium

Unless the podcast is also actually a TV or radio show, it's great that the length can be flexible. Why should you babble on for 5 more minutes if you've said all that you want to say? Or why should you be forced to wrap it up if there are really a lot of great news stories to talk about on a particular day?
