Question

Legality with selling products online

Mar 25, 2015 11:02PM PDT

Dear All,

I plan to start my own website that I am already working on. In order for my model to work, it is mandatory that I manage to sell some electronic brands on my website. I would want to know whether I would need permission from the company before I can sell their product online, or can I sell it without their permission.

Also, it would be wonderful if someone can help me with the process for the same.

Since you have to buy the things you sell, why not ask the wholesaler where you buy it about the conditions?

It's important for your future customers that it's all as it should be, because they (and you!) might experinece issues when they need warranty. And surely you would want to know what to do if a customer comes to you for a warranty repair, like sending it to an authorised repair shop or getting the original parts if you do the repair yourself.

Legality with selling products online

Well I did check with the supplier, but he has little clue regarding it. He is only one of the several distributors of the company. And neither am I getting any information from any legitimate source.

As you pointed out, my concern stems from the very fact that I do not want to jeopardize my customer experience and cause any issues for my website and eventually malign its image.

Thus, I would like to have a generic understanding of what are the legal processes that I must follow in order to ensure before I start selling products online, or does the process change from company to company.

Any source of information or opinion will be appreciated

If you are a legitimate business selling a company's products from legitimate suppliers, i.e. you are selling that company's genuine products and supporting their business through recognised legitimate channels, it is highly unlikely they will have any problem with you using their images to represent their products, providing you are representing them properly and not misrepresenting in any way.
