Legacy software on Windows 7

Aug 17, 2009 11:16PM PDT

Has anyone had experience running older software on Windows 7? I may be the last person around using Lotus123 (version 5 no less, introduced in the Windows 3.1/95 era) but it's still better than Excel and I have thousands of macros and formulas that won't migrate. I've tried.

Would anyone have a sense of the chances that it'd work or if there is a web site where it could be tested out?

Thanks!

Lotus 123 in Win7

I am still using Lotus 123 rel 5. It did ok in XP and Vista (in Vista I got an "out of memory" error message when starting up, but just ignored it). It semed to work good. In Win 7 I could not load a file that was stored in a subdirectory in the "MY Documents" folder. I have always kept my "123_data" folder in the "My Documents" folder, and never had this problem before. I believe that was the conflict with the old 8 character limit on file/folder names. I moved my "123_data" folder with all of its subfolders, conforming to the old name restrictions, to the root directory. Works great. I no longer get the "out of memory" message.

I had a bit of problem, too, on occasion until I remembered to add EMM=RAM to my config.nt file.
