Left-hander Needs Easy to Use Digital Camcorder

Nov 11, 2005 8:52PM PST

Could anyone recommend a camcorder that is easy to use for a left hander? Most all camcorders are built with straps on the right and a view finder suited to right handers!

I need a digital camcorder that would be good for home videos and to use outdoors during vacations.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I'm left eyed and right hand. Such designs don't exist for me either. So I learned to shoot left handed. *both guns and cameras.

Check out the Panasonic SDR-S100.
There is a video available on this site that shows that you can use it also with the left hand only.

Thanks for your input. The Panasonic SDR-S100 does appear to be much more usable for a left hander. However, it was a bit above my price range.

Instead, I decided to purchase the Sony DCR-DVD7. Though it does not have the best ratings, I am not a fan of eye-piece viewfinders nor flip out screens and like the Sony's DVD format, so I hope this Sony will be a good purchase.

Per your earlier message, why is the Panasonic SDR-S100 more left-hand friendly?

Cameras are made so righthanded folks can film Left Handed (AKA Witches) being burned at the stake.

m3harri is either a fundamentalist christian, and should be immediately dismissed as a fanatic, or he is a wise-***, making a joke at the expense of yet another oppressed minority, us southpaws. We are regularly discriminated against, to the indifference of the dominant Rights. From
doorknobs to dangerous power tools, it's obviously a right handed world.
Just remember, since the motor skills on each side of our bodies are controlled by the opposing hemisphere of the brain, only left-handed people are truly in their right minds!

Thanks for your comments! Yes, power tools and other tools can be problematic for southpaws, too. In most cases I have adapted just fine (e.g. scissors). However, I sure wish they would make a circular saw suited for lefties!

Left handers...
Dec 30, 2005 7:09AM PST

I be one for almost 70 years, so it too late to change.
As was said earlier, we are in our "right minds". Learn to adjust, I have and did on many things. There is a left handed power saw. Check out some of the major tool companies. How we left handers digress, this is a camcorder forum. I have yet to see my first left hand camcorder or still camera for that matter, and have been into photography since the "box camera", and made the leap to video almost 20 years ago and still learning. That's why I visit this forum. Thanks to all of you who contribute. Happy New Year.
