General discussion

LE40A786 and Wiselink Pro

Hi all,

I've just bought the above TV, very impressed. I've got a HT-X715 on order and Sky+HD on order.

I'm looking to play my MP3's through TV/Home cinema.

I've got a couple of questions:
* Does WiseLink Pro support Album art?
* Does anyone know of a USB storage device that can also be plugged into the network, for copying files to it and the TV via USB at the same time. I don't want to have to unplug USB drive, add files to it from laptop and then connect it back?
* Alternatively, anyone know of a good media center?

Cheers,
Steve

Steve,

Thanks for your kind words and your support of Samsung products! Happy

1. WiseLink Pro will not support album art while the music is playing. However, using the pictures mode, you could seperately flash the album art - but I don't think while the music is playing.

2. The files must be loaded on a USB MSC device (Mass Storage Class) formatted in Fat32/16 format. So there's no way to really cue or stream the media to the television, as it takes inventory of the MSC device and plays it accordingly. The manual notes that HDDs are not supported, although some users have had some luck with various devices. We officially don't support them, but trying out different solutions won't hurt it.

3. I can't really recommend that, but let's open it up to forum members.

WiseLink Pro

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, I'm disappointed that WiesLink doesn't support album art. If there's a feature request list I'd like to see Album Art support in the future - should be an easy thing to implement and a firmware update. This could then be taken further to browsing by album cover much in the same way as iTunes can. Something for Samsung to think about as WiseLink seems to be a stab at making the TV the media hub and a good stab it is too, just think it needs some polishing and "funky" features.

I found the FAT32 vs NTFS difference yesterday myself, no real problem there - majority of people don't know or even aware of the difference anyway. I'll take a look into the HDD options... no harm in trying.

Cheers,
Steve

Steve,

If you would, we have a "WishList" pinned to the top of the threads for these very ideas. Why not copy and paste this there? It allows other people to jump in and say "yeah!" or "also, how about", which gives us some ideas to run with.

DLNA is progressive, and granted, while we do have a Media Hub, it's not the instantaneous solution that (from what I've seen in feedback) is exhaustive or conclusive for every need, and many of the other hubs out there have received similar feedback.

I'm with you on the unexpected and "funky" features. While some of the Gen4 Nanos and Classics stopped working with WiseLink due to a new "upgrade" recently (and not by us!), one user here found that it worked with one of his other large music devices. WiseLink is our first attempt with thumbdrive media and networking - and this is probably the feature that people here have been most vocal on - and I think it's great.

Here's kind of a neat outline of Fat32 and NTSF chart that I found online: (Sponsored by NTFS.org, of course) Grin

Hope that helps.
