LCD TV or Monitor?

Mar 24, 2006 12:14PM PST

I was thinking about buying a LCD unit but couldn't decide on which one. First off I am a gamer with little to no money lol... and I am looking for something under 400 and watching movies. Monitors are cheaper than tvs so I was looking at the Viewsonic vx924 but was not sure if I could hook up my XBox or soon to arrive x box 360 to it. So my question is... what is the difference between a monitor and a tv? And how horrible would it be to buy a monitor for console gaming? And what does HD enabled (as claimed by viewsonic) as oppose to HD ready mean anyway?
Thanks in advance for your help
Derek

GET THE MONITOR

the difference is in how the unit is advertised. a monitor does not have a channel tuner, so it cannot be called a tv. if you are already using a cable/sat provider, you can save some $$ if the lcd tv your considering has a "monitor" version."hd ready" means the unit has enough resolution to display an hd signal."hd capable/enable" is a enhanced tv (edtv) unit. they will take a hd signal and display it at its native (lower) resolution.
