LCD power light blinks amber

Nov 6, 2009 9:17AM PST

I have a Dell Dimension 4500 desktop with 15" LCD monitor. I turned the CPU and monitor off in the morning. When I turned the system on in the evening, the CPU powered up but the LCD remained blank and the power light is blinking; it blinks in groups of three.

If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist. You may have a bad PSU. Check the diagnostic lights on the back.

I should clarify. The CPU and video card are working fine; I connected the computer to another video source to confirm.

It is the power light on the monitor that blinks. It is as if the monitor is in standby and will not wake up. I connected the monitor to my laptop and it acts the same, blinking amber and blank display. I am thinking it is a component failure. Understandable after 7 years of almost constant use.
