I use a LCD HDTV and since it has speakers, the sound can go to the TV. However I can plug in headphones to the laptop or the TV and viola, sound in my headphones.
If the LCD is just a monitor and no speakers in the LCD then sound will continue to work as it is today.

Im looking to buy a full HD LCD monitor to use with my laptop that uses HDMI. My question is, if I hook up the monior using HDMI, what happens to the audio component of what I'm watching? Will it still play through my headphones?
