Seems like the scheme is missing a CPU to run the software on the stick. The stick doesn't have it, the monitor doesn't have it. So, no, it won't work.

Answer
If it has that capability

If the monitor you have, has the capability to read the contents of the connected USB drive, then I'd say yes you could do that.

But you have not told us whose or which monitor you have. So, barring that information, I'd say just read your owners manual to see what the capabilities are.

Of all the monitors that I have, all of the USB connections are for a Hub capability to branch out a USB connection from a higher source. Those USB connections were not for the purpose you have in mind, but I would not rule out that possibility.

You could tell us what you have ... then someone here could tell you what you can do.

Good luck.

The monitor is MultiSynch PA 241W.

Can't do it

As I figured, the NEC MultiSync PA241W USB ports are just for a hub function. They will repeat a properly connected up-stream port for down-stream continuation.

If you buy something like

a WD TV, which is small device that you can connect to TVs and some monitors, then you can plugin a flash drive to the WD TV and display picture/videos.
