lcd monitor

I would like to know if I can hook up Acer 23" HD LCD Monitor (model # H233h) to my Direct TV cable box and view tv. I was told I could use an S video to Vga adapter, monitor has hdmi & vga, cable box has S video.

Please. Don't ask for cheaper and I know everyone hates those boxes as it does not offer any quality boost.

Why not get a new directtv box?
