LCD Flat Panel TV start-up, general question

Oct 10, 2008 3:47AM PDT

Can anyone comment on the time it takes a flat panel LCD TV to start up? I purchased an inexpensive Vizio 32" LCD flat panel TV two weeks ago. 720p, nothing fancy. Connected to a Direct Tv dvr. I press power, the Vizio logo lights up on the panel, but it takes 20-25 seconds to get the picture. Once it's on, response time (such as changing channels) is acceptable. I've called the store and the manufacturer and gotten no where. So I'd like to know, is this just what you get from an inexpensive LCD, are all LCD's slow to start up, is there another kind of monitor that will start up without a delay? It seems contrary that my 1997 Zenith worked better than this one.

One thing to keep in mind is that HDTVs are realy a PC!

They have an imbeded Operating System, when you power them on they have to boot up. The keyboard is the remote control, the more expensive the set the faster the processor and the faster the boot and response time to channel changes. John

Is there a standby mode?

Is it on? It should help the time a little bit, but 20 to 25 seconds isn't all that long; after all one doesn't turn the tv on and off all that often. I know plasma tv are fairly quick.
