SO yeah... I took off the screws.. and yeah.. there is cleaning solution stuck between the protective layer of the screen and the top layer of the LCD.. but I had to tear some metallic sticker seals to figure this out.
And I was unable to get out the excess cleaning solution without breaking the 1000+ seals that dell put inside this lcd monitor.. So now I also have a 3 pixel wide blue/black line running from the top to the bottom my my screen about 1.5 or 1.75 inches away on the left side of my monitor... oh well, its about time I got a new lcd anyway, I can see the refreshing of games on this thing
its old.. the built in USB ports are USB 1.0 ![]()
SO yeah..
ADVICE!
Do not take apart lcd monitors unless you want to risk messing it up even more... like me ![]()

So I cleaned my Dell 19" LCD monitor using a standard anti-static cleaning and dusting spray. However I did not immediately wipe off the cleaner and some of it dripped down to the bottom of the panel. Once I looked at the monitor a few minutes after cleaning the screen off was something quite scary and unsettling. There is now a black area on my screen at the bottom where some of the cleaning solution got. Not only is there a small area about 1/4 an inch high and 2.5 inches wide, but there are a few lines about 2 pixels wide each running the up and down my monitor above the smudge. My LCD is a couple of years old at least so I am not worried about any warranties. I did take off the plastic case of the LCD and took a look at how to maybe get off the protective cover of the screen itself to see if I could get off the excess cleaning solution. But I do now know how my monitor is made and I noticed that there are 4 screws on the face of the metal plating of my screen that are holding in place the metal cover that can be unclipped in several places along the bottom side of the LCD panel.
My question is this. Are LCD monitors made in a way that you can take apart the layers that make up the LCD? Am I safe to take off this metal looking device that seems to be holding the top layer of the LCD on and seems very easy to take off by undoing 4 screws on the front of the device after taking off the plastic case?
