Latitude D610 Locking UP

I have a Dell Latitude D610. It starts and operates properly for about 15 minutes, then it completely locks up. I have to hold the start button down until it shuts down. When it has cooled down, it will start again. I have checked, and the fan is operating. When placed on a cooling pad, it extends the run time, however it will still lock up. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
