Question

Latest update did some major damage

Mar 1, 2014 8:18AM PST

I downloaded the lastest update for Win XP. When prompted to reboot, I did even though I was in the middle of important stuff. I use this machine only for using scanner and backup. When it rebooted, all that's shown is desktop background, no icons, no nothing.

Have you tried Safe Mode?

If you can boot to Safe Mode, do so and use System Restore to go back before the update. I have to ask if you've used a registry cleaner. They can cause this kind of problem unfortunately.
