Latest Office 2003 update SP2

Oct 21, 2005 2:41AM PDT

I still have Service Pack 1 on my PC (Windows XP Home) and i haven't upgraded to Service Pack 2 due to driver conflicts with music gear.
It seems this Office 2003 update is called SP2 update, which sounds too close for comfort. Will this Office 2003 SP2 update my Windows XP Home to SP2 as well?
What im getting at is are they one and the same? (It is quite large about 40-50MB.) I will not update if it is.

Not the same.

Service packs for the operating system and office suite are not the same. To update your O/S you need SP2 for Win XP Home edition. To update office 2003 you need to install the latest SP2 for Office 2003.

Bandshdarm & John, thanks for the direct answers which i like. John i will look into which of my gear actually has issues. I have only heard from other users of the problems SP2 has caused but never bothered to follow up on any updated patches, etc available. Till now Wink

SP2 here i come.

They're different...

As banshdharm said, they are two completely different updates. For simplicity sake, Microsoft names all major updates ''Service Pack,'' followed by the number. Although they both patch security and stability issues, this one (~50MB) only updates Office 2003, while this one (~250MB) only updates Windows XP and it's various components. Thus, while downloading Office 2003's SP2 won't give you XP's SP2, I'd suggest giving it a second thought. With the number of security flaws that XP SP2 fixed, I'd definaly be checking to see if ''music gear'' has an update, patch, or workaround that makes it compatible with the latest version of Windows. If not, an alternative might be a consideration.

Hope this helps,
John

'mousearoma' is absolutely correct. I think you'd better change or upgrade your music gear. But the SP2 for Windows XP is a must for multiple security and user purposes.
