Laserjet 1300 PCL problem

The 1300 is a great printer, though I have recurring problem when exchanging cartridges. In many instances, the "door open" light flashes and there is no absolute remedy. Removing/reinstalling cartridge sometimes works, opening other doors, etc. Banging on unit finally initiated paper-feed, which solved problem this time (yesterday. Could problem be software? Next time maybe uninstalling/reinstalling software? Thanks to all.

I think you're right. Probably the contacts between the cartridge and receiver. Must be common problem. Too bad there is no easy fix. Thank you for post.

Suffering from wear&tear?

In reply to: Laserjet 1300 PCL problem

The HP 1300 prtr. is dated one. It maybe suffering the effects of wear&tear of yrs. of use. Your banging on it could be the end result of such use on top the typical wear&tear. The end result is that it all boils down to a printer that saw better days. It may need a complete overhaul and/or attention to see what really is at the heart of the issue. Printers while mechanical tend to suffer such fate due as i explained from wear&tear. The door sensor maybe ajar or even cracked/broken and only real close operation helps it. Overall, if you like it maybe time to move on if problems persist. Reseating the ink carts can be help if you clean the contacts area. Look into all this and see if that helps.

It probably is cartridge/receiver contacts. Hadn't though of overhaul, but that's a good idea. I really hate to dispose of quality items. Tell me please...is the HP P2035n a comparable unit?

A choice

In reply to: Laserjet 1300PCL cartridge probs.

If you want to keep the 1300PSL look into "maint. kits" that may provide a fix. But, you really need to inspect$verify what at fault here.

Because new products get introduced and your old one isn't offered no more, the HP 2350n maybe a logical choice. Its a simple printer but it on the bottom end with some improvemnt over the 1300PSL, that being networking and probable USB port to connect to typical systems now. Regardless, if you want to move awy from the 1300PSL it isn't a bad choice and cost isn't that bad. Now, on the other hand, if you really want save some $, the Brother series of laser printers can be very competitive and do a good job. I think that's about as much as I can provide.

Sorry for long delay, CNET now offers a HP forum, that I don't visit as often.
