Largest HDD

I'm told the size of a laptop's hard drive is limited by its BIOS and OS. My "BIOS Version" according to when I go into the BIOS is A04 (04/20/2006), my "System" is MM061, and my OS is XP Pro. This is a Dell Inspiron 6400 E1505, and according to the Dell tech guy it can only handle up to a 100GB hard drive. Is this true? I would really like to add more, 150GB would probably do it.

If I did upgrade to a larger hard drive than it could handle, what would happen? Would that ruin any of the components?

Given that OS, the limit is 127GB.

The other clue is the 100GB unit. I find if it does 100, any drive up to 127GB will be fine. documents the reason this OS is the limiter.

As to ruining components only those that own nothing but a hammer tend to do that.

HAHAHA! I'm not going to be taking a hammer to it anytime soon.
