Laptops for the 64-bit era

Jun 5, 2005 7:50AM PDT

I plan to get an amd 64 bit laptop, but I'm just curious if Intel has released a 64 bit mobile processor themselves, or even if they have announced a release. So far I have heard of no news for mobile intel 64 bit processors. On a side not, give me your opinion on which is better:

AMD 64 bit mobile processor and 128mb ATI Radeon 9700 pro

or

Intel Pentium M processor 740 (1.73ghz) and 256mb nVidia GeForce Go 6800

Both have there plusses and minuses, but im leaning towards the amd.

The Intel Pentium M, but the amd is not that far behind depending on which one you get.

for now? what about the future? its like saying buy a gasoline powered engine today when an electric powered engine with the same cost and performance will be available tomorrow. i guess you would still by the gasoline powered engine just because? or maybe becuase you saw it advertised on a tv commercial with some actor and fancy background setting.

By 'for now', I (and most everybody else, I would think) believe he means based on the currently available equipment and expectations for the near future (usually wthin 1 or 2 months, if concerning a relatively immediate electronics purchase).

No need to be a jerk about it.

I'm already there.

My office only buys 64-bit capable laptops and desktops. I snapped up the Compaq r3000.

At home we bought the Honda Civic Hybrid 3 years ago.

In both cases, we enjoy all the benefits while the naysayers wag tongue.
