Laptops for my mom

by mueslimix / August 22, 2009 1:35 AM PDT

My mom needs a new computer. She's 78 so I want to make this as simple and painless as possible. It doesn't need to be a super powerful machine. She does email, and plays games like bridge and solitaire. She also uses word and excel and opens files in powerpoint. She'd like a new computer with a large screen. It does need to be easy to use. I'm looking at laptops because it's getting difficult for her to pick up and more a PC tower when repairs are needed. I also think it might be cool if the laptop had a docking station that way we could buy a large monitor, plug in speakers and the printer. She could then remove the laptop from the docking station when it needed repairs. Do you have any suggestions?

A post with laptop pickers.

However in the casual user range why not the usual on-sale items at the usual office supply stores, Walmart and such? These run in the under 500 range and will do fine for most of us.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
