The first thing to check is the charger/power supply. Start with using a voltmeter or test light at the output cord to verify the unit is actually working. If a brick and motor store will let you try out a generic replacement before buying, even better.

During the process of connecting the AC charger, showing no immediate action, son got more aggressive and may have broken the charging port. Testing the charger is still advisable. Also, excluding any damage, if the battery goes to a full drain it may not have the required "smarts" to reset itself in order to charge. Batteries have "logic PCB" if it got hosed it basically broken or needs a "master reset". Your Acer model# at support website may offer what if any FAQ or support issues could help resolve this. Sometimes the battery is actually OK, but swapping out is the best course of action. That too offers another clue if the new battery doesn't work either then the problem lies elsewhere(charged battery). I find many a broken charger port, if it wiggles or seems "pushed-in" then physical damage. If this battery is 18mos. or even older expect battery issues as in weak/poor battery period.
