laptop won't boot

by bernielatham / October 6, 2010 5:15 AM PDT

Dell inspiron E1505 running Vista home. Wife turned it off last night and this morning it won't start. No prior problems.

On pressing power button, Dell flash screen comes up for about one half second, then black. Indicator lights on right hinge:
- power light steady
-read/write light flashing
-battery light off

I've tried two power cords, no change. Battery out with power cord, no change.

That most likely is a hardware issue.

Half a second is much to soon for a Windows problem to show. So contact Dell tech support and arrange a repair.

Generic reset failed to alter problem. Going to have the wife take it in.

Problem was a shot screen. Everything was actually proceeding normally but as the screen went black immediately, we just couldn't see activity until screen lit from outside. A smart techie caught it immediately. I've hooked her up to an external monitor and we'll replace the screen.

Thanks kindly for your help!
