Question

laptop with multipule moniters port trhey I have a newouble

Apr 22, 2017 9:44AM PDT

hey
I have a new laptop and i would like to run 2 or maybe 3 monitors it at the same time.

my laptop has one hdmi port and 3 USB slots and one of them is USB 3.0. but the monitors all have VGA and DVI connections.

there are so many ways to make a connection.
i thought of an active hdmi to vga 1x3 or hdmi to dvi 1x3 converter/splitter.

using passive converter/splitters doesn’t work because then I don’t get any identification

passive converters do work when there single but I only have one hdmi port

I saw a video of someone who had a usb to vga converter. now i could buy 3 of those but that is going to be very expensive.

there must be a better solution

PS.

Be aware that some folk demand the VGA monitors get re-used. Here it's something we setup and if an olde monitor doesn't play into the setup, it gets replaced. For better or worse, monitors are cheaper than our per hour fees.

But the link you provided @ Amazon is either bad or FF is screwing up...

Has 3 HDMI outputs from what I can tell.

So let's go with you want to save the VGA monitors since the DVI does not support HDCP. Looks like you have to go that way.

Remember the screen drawing will be sluggish. You know this going in. That is, you will not play video over USB 2.0 links.
