Norton 360 version 3 Automatic and Pulse Updates
Jul 27, 2009 10:03AM PDT

Hi smartlady61,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

I thought I would chime in here and provide you with the detailed information regarding updates and Norton 360 version 3.

LiveUpdate is set to "Automatic" by default, so that you always receive the latest program patches automatically. To minimize any effect on performance, LiveUpdate will run in the background when your computer is idle for 10 minutes.

There is a new feature in Norton 360 version 3 called "Pulse Updates. This feature automatically checks for and installs definition updates in the background every 5-15 minutes, as long as your computer is connected to the internet. This ensures that you are always protected against the latest threats that are discovered every day. To make sure that both the Automatic LiveUpdate and Pulse Updates features are enabled, please follow the steps below.

1. Open Norton 360 and click on the "Settings" link at the top of the window.

2. Click on the "Antivirus"category and then choose the "Antispyware and Updates" tab at the top of the window and make sure that both features are turned "On." If by chance they are not, and you turn them on, make sure that you click the "Apply" and then "Close" buttons at the bottom of the window.

I hope this clarifies these features for you, and please let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks,
Mike

Most Do It Daily...Or Multiple Times Per Day..

The automatic updaters for most effective antivirus programs update automatically every day. Some multiple times in the day.

Hope this helps.

background info

Here is a quick explanation of why you should update your anti-virus daily (in case you or others who stumble across this thread are curious)

"Because new viruses are identified every day, it's important to select an antivirus program with an automatic update capability. When the antivirus software is updated, it adds new viruses to its list of viruses to check for, helping to protect your computer from new attacks. If the list of viruses is out of date, your computer is vulnerable to new threats. Updates usually require an annual subscription fee. Keep the subscription current to receive regular updates."
