Question

Laptop Upgrading

Aug 13, 2013 6:27PM PDT

I want to know how to take a larger brand new blank Laptop/notebook HDD and basically clone the smaller HDD. What cable/s, programs, etc. are needed. I already have the exact same brand/model HDD to upgrade to. Im going from a 500GB to a 1TB drive hopefully. Please any professional grade help will be appreciated

But I use a few tools to do this. Lately my best tool I picked up is an Apricom Notebook Drive Upgrade Kit (see google) and it makes it really easy.

You can also just toss in the new blank HDD and use the restore process for the laptop for a clean start.

About a "clean start"

When you say, "use the restore process," are you referring to the "Backup/Restore" dvds that Windows 8 basically required me to make when I first set up my PC? If that isn't what your referring to then I'm guessing you are talking about having both HDDs in the laptop at the same time and if that's the case I don't have anymore room in my case for a second HDD as I have a DVD-multi drive.

Thanks for the information by the way Happy

Sorry but I can't answer that.

As each maker can change the full restore process I have to defer to the maker's site.

As to your guessing, that means you didn't google what I noted.

I hadn't checked out the USB3.0-SATA Cable when I replied that last time. I finally took a few minutes to look it up and it appears to be pretty much exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for that info. As for the restore process thing I'm using a HP Pavilion g7-2269wm (Windows 8 64-bit, AMD-A84500m w/Radeon HD 7640G, 6GB PC3-12800 DDR3 RAM, 500GB TOSHIBA MQ01ABD050 SATA HDD) That's about the gist of it for my setup. I haven't messed with this system too much yet so I'm not super-acquainted with the Restore setup. I just happen to have a friend that was hard up and had the 1TB HDD, which is also a Toshiba of the same type, and I had a few extra $$ that day so I figured what the heck. Anyway, again, thanks for the info about the USB3.0-SATA cable. I kinda figured there was something similar out in the market just wasn't sure what to look for. I'm not sure if I like the price on the cable as it's something that most likely I'll only EVER use once but then again who knows, right?
