Laptop to use Our Samsung 63" HDTV

Nov 15, 2009 3:36PM PST

I am planning to get a laptop that will use our 63" Samsung HDTV using HDMI to send both Video and Sound to the TV. Some basic requirements are:

Windows 7 Premium
64 bit
4 GB RAM
Blu Ray Player
500 GB HD
Capable 1920 x 1080 resolution

I am planning to use a wireless Mouse and Keyboard from 10 - 25 ft so a recommendation for those would be appreciated. Newegg had an IRock keyboard and mouse with some good reviews.

Also, I need a wireless connection to a wireless router that would be hooked to my Comcast Cable Modem. A wireless router recommendation would also be helpful. I would also have my Wii talking to the wireless router.

My wife and I enjoy Googling and exploring the Internet to include YouTube. I would also have ny Photoshop installed, MS Office, and Photodex Producer.

The laptop would be on our TV stand hopefully with the top closed if possible and connected directly to our third HDMI connector on the TV. The cost hopefully would under $1500.

I do have a lot of questions!!! Any replies would be really appreciated!!!

Is a lot of complaints about image quality from blu ray playback on laptops. So far let's just say you can't beat a dedicated BR player.

Other than that it does work as a big display. If you expect BR play to work then get the seller to demo this before you pay up.

I haven't had good luck with integrated BluRay matching the quality and consistency of a dedicated BluRay player. That being said, not every integrated BluRay player is the same, so if that's something you're set on, make sure you shop around.

Also, you can check out this Laptop Scout for some PCs that might fit your needs. You can use a lot of different criteria (including video capabilities) to sort the laptops: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pc-scout/laptop-set-criteria.aspx?mode=landing.

Cheers,
Ron

connection. You don't have to get one with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The resolution of a laptop is for the screen on the laptop and it can reach higher resolutio if connected to a higher res screen or tv.

I'd give the tool Ron shared a try and focus on the media-oriented PCs. At the very least familiarize yourself with everything that should be considered besides just an HDMI output.
