Question

Laptop takes long time to shut down w/ dock pluged in

Apr 5, 2016 6:18AM PDT

Hey all,

I got a Lenovo E560 with a Startech USB3SMDOCKHV, whenever I shut down the laptop with the docking station plugged in. It takes literally forever for the laptop to shut down.

The DisplayDock driver is updated, and all drivers on the laptop itself is updated.

Any insight? Thanks

Back to Lenovo.

They should walk you through getting it to factory condition which is the benchmark for the times to expect in each setup. If Startech has some added times which you didn't reveal just how long it took, then you may have to try other docks.

Could be malware, added apps etc.

For most the maker and support do a factory restore.

If you want you can try a selective startup (no OS noted so I'll leave it at that.) This way you can see if something is taking longer.

It's also been noted that accepting drivers from Microsoft in Windows Update can cause this. Lesson? Don't get drivers from Microsoft.

Here's the upsetting thing. It's not always the same thing and it can be from a list of 100's of items. So dig into your startup items, what's running at shutdown and see if you see it.
