Laptop suddenly lags, some application won't launch?

Feb 8, 2015 11:31PM PST

Hi, so it all started when I installed dragon age from Origin
After downloading it, I launched it but it failed, saying that "Failed to detect a supported video card"
All of the sudden, the resolution was changed. I changed it in the control panel, but it doesn't feel right!
And the taskbar isn't transparent, unlike before
And then, I could see some squares in the icons of some applications
My dota 2 wouldn't launch either

Now, it lags. Like when dragging a window, it has this "solitaire effect", like multiple copies of the same window follow. Most applications that I'm using right now usually doesn't respond. (When I do my videos in Sony Veas, it tends to not respond now, unlike before. Including Spotify, Chrome, Microsoft Windows, everything!)

So I let my friend fixed the laptop, deleted some useless files here and there but nothing changed. It was still lagging, and my dota wouldn't launch.

I'm guessing that because after I downloaded and launched Dragon Age, my dota couldn't launch. It was really working fine before dragon age.

Please help.

This looks like a perfect reason to use System Restore (SR)

SR is our quick go back to when it worked rollback. It's widely documented on use and how it doesn't affect our files. Why not that?

Go back
Feb 9, 2015 12:14AM PST

As Robert stated, it pays to go back using the "restore feature" of the OS and pick a date/time when it was working. This also suggests that the game you want to pay is far more demanding than you expected or the install got hosed. Don't fiddle too much trying to correct it as you know installing the game started all this. You should review what the game wants in PS specs and go from there. Also, if possible d/l the game file itself rather than updating online as you go, at least the initial install. If you continue to have problems even after getting a good d/l then the game is too much for your system until you resolve what is truly needed or has to upgrade. Plus, laptop tend to be less than capable for gaming unless sold as a gaming platform, regardless if you fit the requirements, the weakest links always pops-up sooner or later. In your case it happened from the git.

hi and thank you for all of your helpful replies!

We didnt do whatyou all suggested first. My friend has this software named malwarebytes, and then scanned the whole laptop
turns out that the root of my problems is an elite virus!
and then after that, we updated the drivers via the driver booster, and then defragged, then now its working perfectly like before! I can now play dota haha
but i appreciate all of your replies. Thank you very much!
