Resolved Question

Laptop suddenly doesn't work anymore?

Dec 31, 2014 2:53AM PST

Hello,

2 days ago i checked my laptop for any malware with "Malwarebytes" and "Hitman Pro" and cleaned my laptop with "CC cleaner" it found some serious problems and some Trojans. I fixxed the isues and restarted my laptop but then it suddenly became really slow like I couldn't even open my control panel or do ctrl + alt + del. Everything freezes for 5+ minutes every time I click on something even if I press the windows key it takes 2 minutes to open. Shutting down my laptop takes like 15 minutes! This never happend before. Before I restarded my laptop I checked for any problems with the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool. There were no problems and my CPU was fine. I can't do a system restore because there aren't any recovery points :/ Also sometimes when I restart it I get a light blue screen or sometimes a black screen with nothing on it. (Sorry for my bad english)

My specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.66 GHz
4 GB of RAM
nVidia GeForce 9600M GT
1 TB HDD

do a complete reset

because w8 set for fast boot messes things up in situations like this since it boots from a hiberfile. System changes like that seem to need a full reset to get it into the fast boot system.

Reset a laptop. (Generic version)

Many laptops have a reset feature. Some don't but as not all machines have it, here's something to try when a laptop won't start. Remember this is generic, doesn't apply to all machines but when faced with a non-starter dead laptop, why not try this?

Ready?

1. Remove all connections to the laptop. (USB, power, etc.)
2. Remove the battery.
3. Press and hold the power on button for 1 full minute.
-> Explainer. Yes, many machines only require 10 or 15 seconds but this reset instruction is generic and I've found people hold the button for 9 or 14 seconds so let's write the full minute.
4. Let go of the power on button.
5. Slip in the battery pack.
6. Plug in the power to the laptop and to the wall.
7. Do not plug in any other devices.

Try the power on button!

Good luck,
Bob

We've seen Linux work and Windows fail but over time it's does get worse. Some think that a GPU won't cause certain failures but the more you see the more your assumptions get blown away.

As a side note, after doing a cleaning for infection, etc., that key components of s/w or the OS are effected. This in turn because they were quarantined or removed, etc., allows a lousy boot-up or trusted operation of the OS. Basically, the cure was as bad as infection. The holes it leaves have to be repaired, either by SFC scan or refresh the OS or worse a total re-install, after you save critical data if possible or wanting to. Saving data, may save ingredients of the infection so a simple erase of the working partition "C" maybe required in order to re-install.

Check and verify all other posts, but it may come to what I offered. Considering the time and effort if this drags out, to restart from scratch.
