Laptop Stand by mode

by kimo_112 / March 22, 2007 1:03 AM PDT

Hey all,

I have a dell xps m1210 and sometimes when i put it in standby or hibernate mode the laptop turns on by itself. I have reinstalled the video drivers (recommended by a friend), and it stopped turning on by itself for a few weeks but it started doing it again. Anyone knows of a solution?

xps M1210

A bad lid switch. When the machine moved the switch would open even when the lid was closed. They went through 2 shops till I found it. And it wasn't that easy. I had to wire to the switch and button it all back up and move the laptop this way and that. Finally I found it.

So if your tech doesn't find it, rest assured that it could be one of those other issues.

NICs have a power setting called "Wake on LAN", or "Allow this device to wake computer". If you're plugged it or wireless, a signal can wake the PC.
