Question

Laptop speed advice plz.

Apr 19, 2016 6:10AM PDT

I bought a refurbished "Toshiba 17.3" Satellite Notebook - 8 GB Memory - 1 TB Hard Drive" about a year ago. It has become extremely sluggish. Webpages and software take a long time to load. Videos play decent once they are loaded.
I have ran malware and virus scans, but it is clean. Before I upgrade any hardware I want to be sure of the issue.

processor speed 2 GHz
processor brand AMD
memory speed PC3-12800
Operating Systems Windows 8
memory type 8GB DDR3 SDRAM
Graphics Controller Model Radeon R5 Graphics
processor model A8-6410

Before replacing any hardware (what hardware?) I'd go back to factory conditions (or your image backup from when all was still well). Only if that's sluggish also, start thinking hardware.

Can you run disk diagnostics? That could be a cause, and - moreover - it's the only thing that is cost-effective to replace.

I will try the disk diagnostics this evening. I want to a save going back to factory condition as my last resort.
