Question

Laptop shuts down with “new” battery

Oct 2, 2018 1:41AM PDT

while the model # shows that my laptop is a clevo p177sm its some custom laptop by digital storm that I bought from a friend

I bought a new battery from china so the quality is questionable but the laptop dies even when plugged in. A few seconds after I turn it on, it beeps like its running out of battery then shuts off.

I’ve cleaned the fans which were filthy, I’ve tried to turn it on with the battery out and the charger is showing a green light like its working. Nothing worked. Any suggestions?

Did it still work with the "old" battery when your friend sold it to you?

Answer
There are THREE parts in the power system on laptops.
Oct 3, 2018 9:54AM PDT

1. The wall adapter or charger (whatever you call that part.)
2. The motherboard which holds the charging and power circuits.
3. The battery.

There are a few bum battery suppliers out there so you have to call it if you think it's the new battery to RMA and try again. Usually folk get the maker's battery when this happens.

The charger is next replaced and if that doesn't clear it it, then a new motherboard.

PS. There is also a calibration required on some models. I do not own your model or service manual but ask the maker how to calibrate the battery when you replace it.
