Laptop Screens...What is the Deal?

by tanekamartin / August 31, 2007 4:08 PM PDT

Hi all,

Does anyone know why the backlog with laptop screens? Going to order the new Latitude D630 from Dell and they're currently giving me an ETA ship date in October (!!!) because, per their explanation, there are only 4 companies that make laptop screens and they're back logged because of back-to-school etc.,

My Inspirion died last week after six years(pretty damn good for a sysytem that is only supposed to last four). Unfortunately it was exactly two weeks before the start of the semester when it died and I'm really stressed about having to be without my own personal computer for a month.

You could also try the Dell outlet store online. They have a lot of laptops in stock and I don't think the screen backorder is an issue since these are "factory refurbs". I got a 1705 inspiron a few weeks ago very nicely equipped for $700 delivered. And for the people who are worried about the "refurbed" unit is perfect, not a scratch on it. My brother turned me on to the Dell outlet and the laptops he bought are the same as mine.......flawless. Anyway, goodluck!
